When taking photos during an investigation there are some things you should do. Always know your surroundings, prior to starting an investigation get a set of photos of the room and area that you are investigating inside and outside so you have something to compare to if you happen to have anything show up that is questionable in your photographs. Also it is good to make a verbal (on your digital recorder) or written note about things in the area such as dirty windows or a large amount of dust and or bugs in the area, as well as who is with you while you are investigating the area. Simple things like that will make it easier for you upon review. It is hard to remember every detail of your investigations surroundings so it is best to be as informative as possible to get the best results. No one wants false evidence and claim it to be real because they were not prepared and not well informed about the area they were in.
If your camera has a rapid picture option, use it. The more pictures in a row you can get the better. The reason for this is if you take a picture then wait and take another one and then wait and take another one the chances of you catching something are smaller, it is more likely that you will have to throw things out because of uncertainty. If it is in rapid succession it’s a lot easier to prove that the apparition that you see in the first two pictures but only partial in the third is really an apparition not something else or make it easier to say it is not paranormal but natural because it is very close to real time. Same goes for something is in frame one but not the last two. Spirits are fast and once the first flash goes off chances are they will be gone before the 2nd one goes so the faster the better.
Try to take random pictures, again use the rapid picture option if you have it, when you are walking by a room or an area reach in and snap away. When you are walking take pictures behind you as you are walking or sitting there. The reason for this is, unfortunately spirits don’t stand in the middle of the room yelling hey over here take a picture of me while they jump up and down waving their arms in the air and then pose and wait for you to take the picture. In my experiences spirits are just out of reach and they want to know what you are doing just like you want to know what they are doing so they are there, but at a distance so don’t expect a full body apparition. You want to look for the feet walking into or out of a room, the hand coming out of a shadow, the head peaking out of the doorway. It is rare if you get a full on full body picture of a spirit.
When you are taking pictures be aware of your surroundings, know where peoples flashlights are and where people are. If someone has their flash light up toward the ceiling and you take a picture of the area and see some mystical light forming in the middle of the floor off to the side of the flash light the chances are that it is not mystical, it’s the light reflecting off of the ceiling vent onto the floor creating the illusion of a wonderful magical apparition forming before your eyes. Sorry. Peoples’ flashlights cause wonderful colored “orbs” if you are not aware that someone is flashing a light on the wall when you review It will look really cool but it is nothing paranormal. Windows are reflective they will capture the person standing many feet away from it as a reflection and if you don’t pay attention when you take that picture, later on when you review you have a chance to provide false evidence.
When you are done with your investigation and it is time to review be sure to take as much time as you can and really look into the pictures you have. Lighten them up look in the corners of door frames, on the ground in the air you will be surprised what you catch. Like I said they don’t stand there and strike a pose so they can be noticed.
There are many other things you should know but it all comes down to basic common sense and your ability to pay attention.
